It has been said that wine is proof that God loves us. If that’s true, France was certainly blessed. With more than ? Acres of vineyards and a centuries old tradition of producing the finest of wines, its no wonder that French wine occupies a unique position in the world. There are distinct wine regions in France totaling ? Acres of vineyards, with each region producing wines unique to the area. It is a quality that the French call terrior or earth. The soil be it shale and sand, chalky and gravely or other combinations is said to be the defining element in the final bottle of wine. Even within regions there can be differences from vineyard to vineyard, town to town, so a visit to any region is an adventure. While we could write a thousand pages and never cover all there is to know about the wine industry in France, we think you’re much more interested in sampling it for yourself. So whether your fancy is for the sparkling wines of Champagne, the hearty reds of Burgundy or any of the other famous varieties, you’ll not be disappointed. We offer many side trips to all the wine regions in France and would like to highlight a few of our favorites. |
